Cellulite massage is a body care service for areas such as the hips, legs, stomach or arms, carried out with hand massage and a body care device. A session is made up of a short conversation, a hand massage that warms the skin, a device-assisted part and a gentle finish. If you have never had one before, your first question is probably a simple one: “What exactly happens once I am in the room?”
Below we take you through the first session from start to finish, so you know what to expect before you arrive and can feel at ease.
What is cellulite massage, and why is it done regularly?
Cellulite massage is body care, by hand and with a device, designed to look after the texture of your skin. With regular sessions, it helps reduce the look of cellulite and supports smoother-looking skin. Cellulite is something many women have; it comes from the structure of the skin, and it is not a one-session matter.
That is why we plan cellulite massage as part of a cellulite care programme. We most often suggest 1-2 sessions a week and a plan of 8-10 sessions. Each programme is planned and carried out to a personalised protocol, so this is only a general range: your own programme is agreed at your first consultation, based on your skin and your diary.
The sessions are also calm time set aside for yourself. You can think of them as a moment to unwind in a busy week.
We explain why cellulite forms, in plain terms, in our post on what causes cellulite.
How should you prepare for your first session?
A few small steps before your first session help it go more comfortably. None of them is difficult:
- Drink plenty of water during the day.
- Try not to eat a heavy meal just before your session.
- Wear comfortable clothes that make the area easy to reach.
- If the area to be worked on has sunburn or a recent wax, let us know before your appointment. It may be better to move the session by a few days.
If any of the following applies to you, please tell us before your appointment:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- A pacemaker, or any metal or electronic implant in the body
- An operation in recent months
- An open wound, irritation or an active skin concern on the area to be cared for
- Noticeable vein concerns in the legs
- Taking blood-thinning medication
- An ongoing (chronic) condition
We ask so that we can plan the session in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Where we feel it is needed, we suggest postponing the session or checking with your doctor first. We do not offer this service during pregnancy. Your sessions are carried out by our expert team of qualified practitioners, who explain each step and keep your comfort in mind.

What happens at your first session, step by step?
Your first session may take a little longer than later ones, because getting to know each other and planning are part of it. A session usually lasts 30-45 minutes and can run a little longer depending on how many areas are included.
1. A short conversation and choosing the areas
The session begins with a calm chat. We listen to what you are hoping for and decide together which areas to work on. If any of the situations mentioned above applies to you, this is when we talk about it.
This conversation is where we build a plan made for you. We also talk here about how cellulite massage is about the look and texture of your skin, not the number on the scales.
2. Preparation
We cleanse the area and prepare the skin for massage while you lie on a comfortable couch in a warm, quiet room. Any areas we are not working on stay covered, and your privacy is respected throughout the session.
3. Warming and kneading massage
The hand massage begins with soft circular movements that warm the skin. We then move on to kneading and light pinching techniques.
You will clearly feel the kneading and pressure at this stage. That is normal, and it should not be painful. We adjust the pressure to your comfort; if anything feels sensitive, just say so.
4. The device-assisted part
After the massage, we work on each area with the salon’s body care device, choosing a device head that suits the area and how sensitive your skin is.
You may feel suction or vibration at this stage; some people describe it as a light pulling. At a first session we usually start the device at a lower intensity and adjust it as we go, based on how it feels for you. We check in with you often.
5. Finishing
The session closes with light, gentle strokes, followed by a body care cream on the area. This part of the session is calm and restful.
6. Final suggestions and planning
Before you leave, we share a few short suggestions for the rest of your day. If you like, we also plan the day of your next session together; with this care, regularity matters more than any single session.
How will you feel after the session?
After a session the area may look slightly pink or feel a little sensitive. This is common after the massage and the device, and it usually settles quickly. Bruising is not expected; if it does happen, please let us know and we will plan your next session with that in mind.
Our suggestions for the day of your session are simple:
- Keep drinking plenty of water and allow yourself time to rest.
- Avoid saunas, the hammam and very hot baths for the first 24 hours.
- Gentle movement, such as a light walk, feels good.
- Make moisturising your skin a daily habit.
A change in appearance is the aim of a regular programme rather than a single session. Your skin, how regularly you come and your daily habits all shape it. Every body responds differently, and we talk through what you can expect at your first consultation.
How does care at home complement your salon session?
Your salon sessions and your habits at home work together. Drinking plenty of water, staying active during the day and moisturising your skin regularly are a natural part of the care.
Salon care does not replace these habits. We do not expect you to change your exercise or eating routine either; what matters to us is that this time you set aside for yourself fits in with your daily routine. Our post on how to combine salon care and home care looks at bringing the two together.
Frequently asked questions
Does cellulite massage hurt?
It should not be painful. You will feel kneading and pressure, and suction during the device-assisted part. If anything feels sensitive, just tell us and we will adjust the massage pressure and the device intensity to your comfort straight away.
Will I see a difference after the first session?
A change in appearance is the aim over the course of your programme, with regular sessions, rather than after the first one. Cellulite massage is planned as a care programme, and with this care, regularity matters more than any single session.
How often are the sessions?
We usually suggest 1-2 sessions a week and a programme of 8-10 sessions. This is a general range; the plan is settled at your first consultation, based on the area, your skin and your diary.
What should I wear to a session?
Comfortable clothes that make the area easy to reach are all you need. Any areas we are not working on stay covered during the session, and because we apply a body care cream at the end, something loose may feel more comfortable afterwards.
