“How long will it last?” is the first question most people ask about brow lamination. The short answer: the effect usually lasts 4-8 weeks; it varies from person to person, depending on the natural growth cycle of your brow hairs and your aftercare. Lamination does not change the natural structure of your brows; it helps them look neat and groomed for a few weeks.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a brow service in which the hairs are softened, brushed into the shape you want and then set so that they hold it for a while. Nothing is cut and nothing is added: we work entirely with your own brows.

During the service, stray hairs that grow in different directions are brushed up and set in one line. It suits people who would rather not style their brows every morning, who like a simple make-up routine, or who want to feel ready before a special occasion. You can see all the options at our salon on our brow and lash services page.

What happens during a session?

A session usually has five steps and takes around 45 to 60 minutes:

  1. Cleansing: we remove make-up and oil from the brows and the skin around them.
  2. Softening: a softening product is applied and left on for a set time.
  3. Brushing: the hairs are brushed into the shape we have agreed together.
  4. Setting: a setting product is applied to hold the new shape.
  5. Nourishing: we finish with a nourishing step for the hairs.

Before we begin, we look together at the condition of your brows, what you are hoping for and any brow services you have had before. Choosing between a soft, natural look and a more defined, brushed-up finish is the most important step in making sure the look suits you.

How long does brow lamination last?

Usually 4-8 weeks, and it varies from person to person. The range is wide because different sources quote different timings (some say 4 to 6 weeks, others 6 to 8), depending on the product, the hair type and the aftercare, and because everyone’s brow hairs renew at a different pace. So we give you a range and see together, after your first session, how it works for you.

Why the hair growth cycle matters

Brow hairs are always renewing: some are growing, some are resting and some fall out naturally. Lamination shapes the hairs in your brows on the day of your session. Over time they are replaced by new hairs, which grow in their own natural direction. So the effect does not stop suddenly; it fades gradually and your brows return to their natural look.

What affects how long it lasts?

  • Hair type: fine, soft hairs and thick, coarse or wavy hairs hold their shape for different lengths of time.
  • The first 24-48 hours: water, steam or sweat during this time can affect how well the shape settles.
  • Oily skin: if the brow area tends to be oily, the shape may relax sooner.
  • Your routine: frequent saunas, swimming or sweaty workouts can shorten the effect.
  • Skincare: frequently applying retinol or acid-based products to the brow area can make the hairs lose their shape sooner.

Why do the first 24-48 hours matter?

After the setting step, the hairs need time to take on their new shape fully, so the first 24-48 hours matter most for how long the look lasts. We will tell you what suits you at the end of your session. During this time, we suggest avoiding:

  • Water, steam and sweat on your brows
  • Saunas, the hammam, swimming pools and the sea
  • Brow make-up (pencil, powder or gel)
  • Oily products, retinol or acids on the brow area
  • Rubbing your brows or reshaping them with your fingers

If you need to wash your face, simply keep away from the brow area. Once this first period has passed, brushing your brows into place each morning with a clean spoolie is the easiest way to keep the look. Lamination can leave the hairs a little dry, so regular nourishing care helps too; we explain how it works in our post on hair and brow vitamin care, and we can suggest what suits you at the end of your session.

When can you have it done again?

We usually plan the next session no sooner than 6-8 weeks later. This lets the previous effect fade naturally and gives your brow hairs a rest. Because every service is planned to a personalised protocol, this interval may differ for you. Laminating too often can dry out and weaken the hairs, so if your brows look dry or brittle, we may suggest waiting a little longer.

Before your appointment

If you have sensitive skin or a known allergy, please let us know before your appointment; we may recommend a patch test first.

Please come without make-up on your brows, and avoid retinol or acid-based products on the brow area for about a week beforehand. If you have recently had your brows tinted or had any other service on them, let us know; it may be better to wait before lamination.

If any of the following applies to you, please message us before booking. We will talk through together whether the service is right for you and, if needed, suggest waiting. If you are unsure, we recommend checking with your doctor.

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Redness, irritation, itching, a stye or an open wound around the eyes
  • Recent eye surgery
  • A previous allergic reaction to brow, lash or tint products
  • Brow or lash loss with no known cause
  • Very dry, fine or brittle hairs
  • A skincare product recommended by your doctor that you use regularly

Frequently asked questions

Does brow lamination make brows thicker?

No. It does not grow new hairs or change how many you have; it only sets your existing hairs neatly in one direction. If you would like to nourish your brows, we can talk about brow vitamin care separately.

What will my brows look like when it wears off?

They gradually return to their natural look. Lamination does not cut or shorten the hairs, so the change usually goes unnoticed.

Will brow lamination damage my brows?

That depends largely on how it is done. We choose products and timings to suit the condition of your brows and keep to the recommended gap between sessions; if your brows look dry or brittle, we may suggest waiting. We have listed above the situations to check with us about first, and we go into more detail in our post on brow lamination and lash lift risks.

When can I wear brow make-up again?

Usually after the first 24-48 hours; we will tell you what suits you at the end of your session. After that you can use pencil, powder or gel as usual, and removing it gently helps the look last longer.

Plan the right time for your brows

How long brow lamination lasts depends partly on your hair type and partly on your aftercare, so we talk openly about what to expect at your first session. Your lamination is carried out by our expert team of qualified practitioners, who explain each step and look after your comfort throughout.
